Salt pans carved in limestone, near Il-Blata I-Bajda in the middle North of Malta. In the front you can see the canal that was carved in the limestone that functioned as an inlet for the sea water. The water was led to the higher terraces with salt pans, where it could evaporate and the salt could be collected. Salt was considered as 'white gold' in former times. At the far end, to the Nort-West, you can see the Qalet Marku Tower at Ras il-Qrejten (Qrejten point). Previous page Next page
